Mission

The AEJ was set up in 1962 and brings together journalists through their membership in the 20 national sections of countries that belong to the Council of Europe. Members are media staff and freelance contributors to television, radio, newspapers and new media. The combined efforts are focused on:

  • Defending the freedom of information and freedom of the press in Europe.
  • Promoting critical journalism as a crucial element of a democratic European integration process.
  • Promoting cross-border journalism.
  • Combating misinformation and fostering media literacy education.

The AEJ Belgian statutes were updated in 2020 and are available in 3 languages: DutchEnglish and French.
